INSPIRE 2025: Encouraging the Next Generation of First Responders
As Newmarket Ward 6 Councillor and Chair of the Central York Fire Services Joint Council Committee, I am proud to support INSPIRE 2025, an event dedicated to encouraging more women to explore careers in emergency services.
Growing up, I never imagined I would have the opportunity to lead in this space. The reality is that for many women, the path to becoming a first responder has often felt out of reach. That is why events like INSPIRE are so important, they open doors, challenge perceptions, and provide direct access to the people and resources that can turn aspirations into reality.
On March 1, 2025, Central York Fire Services (CYFS) will host the fourth annual INSPIRE event in celebration of International Women’s Day. This free, drop-in event will bring together first responders, local advocates, and community organizations to highlight the many career paths available in emergency services.
What is INSPIRE?
INSPIRE is an opportunity for women, students, and community members to learn firsthand about careers in firefighting, paramedicine, policing, and other public safety roles. Hosted by Central York Fire Services (CYFS), with support from York Regional Police (YRP), York Region Paramedic Services, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Seneca Polytechnic Firefighting program, and many others, this event will showcase the skills, dedication, and impact of first responders while encouraging others to consider these essential roles.

Why This Matters
As a woman in leadership, I believe strongly in creating pathways for women to succeed in roles where they have historically been underrepresented. First responders play a critical role in keeping our communities safe, and it is essential that we build teams that reflect the diversity and strength of those they serve.
INSPIRE is not just about showcasing career opportunities, it is about empowering individuals to see themselves in these roles and take the first steps toward achieving their goals.
I encourage everyone to attend, whether you are considering a career in emergency services, supporting a young person exploring their future, or simply want to connect with those who dedicate their lives to protecting others. This event is about breaking barriers, building confidence, and inspiring the next generation.
I look forward to seeing you there.
