#SnowDayUpdates - What You Need to Know!

A Big Thank You to Our Newmarket Staff and Community

A huge thank you to all the dedicated Town of Newmarket staff across all departments for working hard to manage this winter storm. We also appreciate our community’s patience as crews work to keep our roads and sidewalks clear and safe.

Significant Weather Event Declared in Newmarket
As of 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, the Town of Newmarket has declared a Significant Weather Event due to heavy snowfall. This means road conditions may be hazardous, and snow clearing will take longer than usual. Please avoid unnecessary travel and take extra precautions if you must go out.

What You Need to Know:

  • Roads and Sidewalks: Snowplows will focus on clearing primary roads first, followed by secondary roads and sidewalks. You can track plowing progress with the Locate My Plow app at newmarket.ca/snowclearing.

  • Parking Restrictions: Avoid parking on the street so plows can get through. Remember, on-street parking is not allowed between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. If you need extra parking, apply for a free Off-Street Parking Permit to park overnight in designated municipal lots (5 p.m. to 7 a.m.).

  • Sidewalk Clearing: Property owners are encouraged to clear sidewalks adjacent to their homes. Please do not shovel snow onto the street. If you’re able, consider helping a neighbour who may have difficulty shoveling.

  • Hazard Reporting:

    • Report fallen branches or trees: 905-895-5193 (press 3 after hours)

    • Report power outages to NT Power: 905-895-2309 or check their outage dashboard.

  • Garbage Collection: Avoid placing waste bins on snowbanks, streets, or sidewalks.

  • Green for Life Recycling & Organic Waste Collection: Recycling and organic waste collection will still occur today; however, there may be delays.

Respect Our Snow Crews

Our snowplow operators are working around the clock to clear roads and sidewalks. Please be patient, give them space, and avoid approaching them while they’re working. If you have questions, contact Customer Service at info@newmarket.ca or call 905-895-5193.
