The Future of Pickleball in Newmarket: More Courts, More Play!

Pickleball is booming, and Newmarket is embracing the growth of this exciting sport! As the fastest-growing sport in the world, pickleball has seen a surge in popularity among people of all ages, particularly among seniors looking for a fun, low-impact way to stay active. With demand for dedicated courts on the rise, the Town of Newmarket is taking action to expand pickleball facilities for our community.

New Pickleball Courts Coming to Newmarket!

I’m thrilled to share that new pickleball courts are coming to Lundy’s Lane and Bayview Parkway! These courts will provide much-needed space for recreational and competitive play while fostering community engagement and active living.

Planning & Construction Updates

The Town of Newmarket has been actively working to bring these courts to life. Here’s what has been done so far and what’s ahead:

Site Selection & Design

  • Lundy’s Lane and Bayview Parkway were identified as ideal locations due to accessibility and available space.

  • The design process has been focused on meeting professional standards while ensuring an enjoyable experience for players of all levels.

Community Engagement

  • Residents and pickleball enthusiasts provided input on the need for additional courts and ideal locations.

  • Feedback was gathered to ensure the new courts serve all players, from beginners to seasoned competitors.

Funding & Approval

  • Budgeting and funding allocations have been approved as part of Newmarket’s commitment to enhancing recreational facilities.

  • Planning approvals and site assessments were completed to ensure a smooth development process.

🚧 Next Steps: Construction & Opening Timeline

  • Spring/Summer 2025: Construction is expected to begin, with groundwork preparation and infrastructure installation.

  • Fall 2025: Projected completion and grand opening of the new pickleball courts!

  • Community Launch Event: Plans are underway for an opening celebration, welcoming players to enjoy the new courts with clinics, matches, and community fun.

Recent Council Discussions & Upcoming Public Information Centre

  • Yesterday at the Committee of the Whole, Council discussed the Bubble, exploring options for enhancing pickleball facilities in Newmarket.

  • A Public Information Centre will take place in March, providing residents with updates and an opportunity to share feedback on the project.
