Key Updates from Newmarket Council on December 11, 2023:
1. Newmarket Council approved a 3.99% tax increase for the 2024 Budget, aiming to minimize the impact on residents while keeping property taxes 10% lower than the GTA average. The budget focuses on providing quality services and more recreational opportunities to enhance Newmarket's livability.
2. A new Temporary Patio Program Policy has been established to further support local businesses, offering multi-year approval and earlier application periods. The policy covers eligibility, types of temporary patios, applications, evaluation criteria, and operating requirements, including fees and charges.
3. Newmarket is progressing with plans to build a dedicated pickleball facility with 14 to 20 courts at the north end of George Richardson Park, along with a seasonal bubble for fall/winter play. The final location will be determined in the new year based on a forthcoming report to Council.
