In an effort to eliminate a significant barrier to the development of housing options, including affordable housing, Council submitted a motion to the Province to dissolve the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) or create a new adjudication process that will only hear cases that do not conform with the municipality’s Official Plan.
Council passed an updated Election Sign By-law which dramatically reduces entry costs for candidates. Lowering barriers is one way Newmarket is encouraging more people to get involved in the democratic process.
An update on the Development Charge Study & Community Benefit Charges Strategy was presented to Council which reviewed the development forecast, historical service levels and funding envelopes. Next steps include the release of the strategy and a public meeting.
