Welcoming Kevin Mills: A Champion for Accessibility in Newmarket

I am thrilled to welcome Kevin Mills as the newest member of Newmarket's Accessibility Advisory Committee. Kevin’s unwavering dedication to promoting accessibility and inclusivity makes him an invaluable addition to our team.

Kevin’s journey is one of resilience and inspiration. After sustaining a spinal cord injury in 2009, he co-founded Walk It Off, a specialized neurological rehabilitation clinic in Newmarket that has helped countless individuals regain strength and confidence. The clinic recently expanded at its new Yonge Street location, continuing to serve those living with neurological conditions.

In 2023, Kevin hand-cycled over 8,000 kilometres across Canada from Newfoundland to British Columbia—on a mission to raise awareness about accessibility and inclusion. His incredible effort captured national attention and reinforced the importance of removing physical and systemic barriers across our country.

He has also shared his experiences and insights at the federal level, including with the House of Commons Standing Committee on Human Resources, advocating for meaningful, lived-experience representation in accessibility planning.

Kevin has received several honours, including the MP Medal and the Key to the Town of Newmarket, in recognition of his leadership and advocacy.

As a member of the Accessibility Advisory Committee, Kevin brings both lived experience and deep expertise. I’m proud to work alongside him as we continue our shared goal of making Newmarket accessible for all.

By being engaged and sharing information, we can create real, lasting change. Together, we build momentum, break down barriers, and create results for Ward 6.

with gratitude,
