Background:

The Town currently has 21 tennis courts and 6 pickleball courts.

Over the past few years, there has been a significant growth in the sports of tennis and pickleball. This growth, coupled with the goals set out in the Town’s Recreation Playbook have prompted the two public engagement sessions to ensure the Town can continue to support its tennis and pickleball community.

In addition, last year, the Town announced that as part of a Municipal Capital Facilities Agreement with Shining Hill Developments, a new tennis facility and clubhouse will be constructed on Bennington Road. This project is well underway, and the Town is excited to present the facility renderings to the community as well as gather feedback.

Feedback gathered from both Public Information Centres will help the Town formulate seasonal operating models and strategies in order to support pickleball and tennis players in Newmarket. A report to Council is expected to be completed with information gathered from both PIC’s in March 2023.

Residents who cannot attend the PICs are encouraged to visit the online engagement webpages to provide their input; available until February 17, 2023. Information from both meetings will be uploaded onto the engagement sites afterwards.
