Newmarket Council December 12, 2023
Top 3 Need-to-Knows from the Council Meeting on December 12:
Council formally expressed its opposition to the province’s Bill 23, More Homes Built Fast Act. In its current form, Bill 23 will have a significant negative impact on heritage, housing, green standards, environmental protection of wetlands, conservation, social housing and more.
In consultation with the BIA, Council voted to adjust the parking limit on Main Street to offer flexibility for shoppers and diners on weekday evenings and weekends, while maintaining fast turnaround, and therefore increased parking availability, during weekdays. Starting this winter, the 30-minute parking limit will continue during weekdays and be extended to two hours on evenings and weekends.
Members of Council were appointed to Committees and Boards for the 2022-2026 term to continue engagement with the community on a variety of topics ranging from heritage to economic growth. If you want to help make Newmarket even better, you can apply to volunteer for a Town Committee.
By working together, sharing information, and ideas, and being engaged in our community we can achieve great things for Newmarket.
