Stay warm at the Inn from the Cold Drop-In Program at Ray Twinney Recreation Complex

​Those looking to seek shelter from the cold can participate in the Drop In Program hosted by Inn from the Cold, York Region and Krasman Centre at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex (100 Eagle Street West). The program is available from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

The program provides vital services and supports to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness within a safe and warm environment. 

All individuals or couples experiencing homelessness in York Region who are looking for shelter during a Cold Weather Alert are asked to call the Transitional Shelter Intake Line at 1-877-464-9675 ext. 76140 or email TransitionalShelter.Line@york.ca.

Families with children seeking shelter during Cold Weather Alerts should contact Leeder Place Family Shelter by calling Blue Door at 1-888-554-5525.

Tips on Staying Warm

  • Limit your exposure to extreme cold weather

  • If it's too cold outside, consider staying indoors

  • Make sure your head, face, ears, neck, hands and feet are well protected

  • Avoid alcoholic beverages as they cause your body to lose heat more rapidly
