Be Careful: Storm Water Management Ponds

Be extremely careful around local bodies of water such as Fairy Lake, the Holland River and storm water ponds. The ice may look thick enough to venture out on, but don't risk it.

Newmarket has over 65 storm water management ponds which store and treat rainwater. As they are designed to prevent flooding, erosion and improve the quality of water, they differ from regular ponds, and water flow and levels can fluctuate quickly without warning.
