Newmarket Annual Community Clean-up
RESCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY MAY 20TH 2017
The weather for this weekend is looking a little on the "terrible" side and I would like to suggest we change this opportunity to a different Saturday. I will be at the site in case some people come out but i believe we could have a more more enjoyable day later in May.
Anyone who has been to The Whipper Billy Watson Park can tell you about how fortunate we are to have such great parks in our community. Those who look more closely, however, will often have no trouble finding evidence of garbage dumping and other human activities that impact the park. While most of us use the garbage and recycle bins provided, others leave behind broken toys, cigarette butts, and picnic litter. Along with other odd items like tires, oil drums, and roller skates.
Ray Bielecki and his son Brett started the clean up over a decade ago and has humbly passed the torch on to us "the community" to keep he and his sons legacy alive. Brett and Ray are an inspiration to us all to roll up our sleeves, be apart of the solution and something truly amazing. I know with the help of many community volunteers the cleanup will continue to be a success. Ray said “Each year gets better and better!” “A terrific lesson for everyone on keeping the environment clean and make our community a safer healthier place to live”.
The cleanup takes place Saturday, May 6: Meet at the Municipal Offices (395 Mulock Drive) at 8 a.m. Gloves, garbage bags and clean-up maps are provided for residents to clean surrounding streets and parks.
Ward 6 residents looking to participate close to home can meet me at Whipper Billy Watson Park corner of Clearmeadow Blvd and Carruthers Avenue. Parking is available at the Park on Clearmeadow Blvd. off Bathurst Street. We will start st 8:30am and are usually done by 11:30am.
Following the clean-up volunteers will enjoy a free ‘thank-you’ BBQ lunch at our Municipal Offices 395 Mulock Drive from noon to 1 p.m., along with music, activities and fun for the entire family.
All are welcome and are encouraged help clean up and enjoy a great day outdoors!
