Ward 6 Newmarkets Kiera Kenny joins Team Canada Dance in Poland!
Several local dancers auditioned and have made it to the largest and most prestigious of all dance competitions –
The 2017 World Dance Championships. Team Canada has been attending the Official World Dance Championships since the 1990’s.
Long time member of our Clearmeadow PS community, currently teaching grade two, Mrs. Kathy Kenny and her incredibly talented daughter Kiera are off to Poland. The Newmarket Irish Dance Studio’s Kiera Kenny is one of a selected group of dancers chosen to represent Canada as a member of the Ballet Team. Kiera is a world competitive level Irish Dancer, dancing the art of Irish Dance since she was three years old. It was only two years ago when she began competing in Ballet. It is truly amazing that Kiera was one of the 16 dancers who will be competing as a large group, in addition Keira is also part of the small group and chosen as one of two soloists.
It was a little over a year ago when the Irish Dance Studio team was off to worlds. Kiera Kenny just 13-years old at the time competed in the World Irish Dancing Championships in Glasgow, Scotland March 20 to 27 2016.
While most teens are doing other activities in the summer this youth group gladly gave up their summer holidays as well as their weekends to train for this exciting experience and a chance to represent Canada on the World Stage.
Team Canada World Championships for BALLET, JAZZ, and MODERN/CONTEMPORARY take place Sunday December 3rd through to Saturday December 9th 2017 in Poland.
I wish Kathy and Kiera lots of luck and success in the coming days and will be following along from their home town Newmarket, ON. Good luck to all the Team Canada Dancers. #gokierago
