Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Sexual Assault Section are releasing a composite sketch and seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a sexual assault in the Town of Newmarket.
On Friday, January 1, 2016, shortly before 3 a.m., an 18-year-old female was walking westbound on a pathway that runs parallel to Davis Drive on the south side. She was coming from the GO bus terminal towards Crossland Gate when she was approached by a man who grabbed her, forced her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.
The man who witnessed the sexual assault has come forward and spoken with investigators. It is believed there was more than the usual amount of pedestrian traffic in the area of the assault at the time, in particular around the GO bus lot at Davis Drive and Eagle Street. Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen the suspect or saw anything suspicious to please come forward with any information.
Investigators do not believe that this incident is linked to other ongoing sexual assault investigations in the Newmarket area.
